עָרַף

ʻâraph. a primitive root (identical with through the idea of sloping); properly, to bend downward; but used only as a denominative from עֹרֶף,; to break the neck; hence (figuratively) to destroy; that is beheaded, break down, break (cut off, strike off) neck.
